On 12 February 2019, the European Data Protection Board published Guidelines 1/2019 on Codes of Conduct and Monitoring Bodies under Regulation 2016/679.
Their scope is to provide practical guidance and interpretative assistance in relation to the drafting and monitoring of codes of conduct. The guidelines will help to clarify the procedures and the rules involved in the submission, approval and publication of codes of conduct.
They should also provide a clear framework for the evaluation of the codes of conduct in a consistent manner and with greater transparency, ensuring that those who seek approval are fully conversant with the process and its formal requirements.
Public consultation of the guidelines will be open until 2 April 2019. After that date, they will be published on the website of the European Data Protection Board.
